Shower Curtain from a Table Cloth

A few weeks ago I was completely blown away by a fellow blogger's living room.  Do you know Krista from The Happy Housie?  Well, her living room is SPECTACULAR.  You don't have to take my word for it, see it HERE.

I adore colour.  I've been trying to embrace white and shabby chic but what really butters my bread is bright, happy colour.  That's what Krista's house is all about and when I saw it, I instantly knew I had been on the wrong path.

Today I went shopping and while browsing through housewares, I found an outdoor table cloth that I fell in love with.  That tablecloth was going to be the inspiration for my main bathroom's colour palette.  My already made over not once, not twice but three times main bathroom.  Yep.  Keep at it until you get it right - that's my motto!  The best part about finding the perfect inspiration is that I'm so excited that I can't rest until I finish it!!!

So, of course the table cloth isn't the right size for a shower curtain.  Instead of being 70 x 72, it was 60 x 84.  Oh well, whatever.  I'll make it work!

I raced home and started painting and pinning and pinching stuff from other rooms IMMEDIATELY.   Cause I just had to do it now!  Here's the newly decorated bathroom.

There it is.  A bathroom inspired by a tablecloth!  Oh and how did I hang that thing you ask?  I used curtain clips from Ikea - the ones that come in three pieces, and I only used the clip part to clip the tablecloth to the old shower curtain.  All I had to do was fold the long side down a few inches and thanks to the shelves, you don't see the missing 10 inches.  If I were to do it right, I would be sewing a border around it in a solid colour that matches one of the colours in the pattern.

When I get my hands on some paint in the orangey yellow shade from the flowers in the curtain, I'm going to paint the hooks, the lights and the shelf over the tub.  Loving all the bright happy colour.

This bathroom totally makes me happy now.  I don't even mind the tile anymore!  Woo hoo!!  If you want to see what it used to look like, click HERE

Have a happy week!

  1. it's so happy, Anne! I struggle with the same thing; I love colour, but it's so easy to go with neutrals and inject colour with accessories.

    You did the right thing!

  2. Love it, Anne- it's so bright and happy! I flip-flop over all-white and adding color. That's part of the reason I haven't shown much of my house- I can't complete a room because I can't make a decision! Well, that and the fact that I don't really want anyone to see the mess.... :P

  3. I'm a color gal and I love this. Do what makes YOU happy. :D This world would be sooooooo boring if everyone did all white and neutral!!! The colors you picked are awesome!!

  4. Yep. Krista's space is marvelous. Love all of those pops of color. I am drawn to color but it's a struggle to create that in my own space. Out of all of your bathroom makeovers, I like this one the best. Great sense of color. Keep on inspiring me!

  5. Wow! It looks so pretty Anne! I love the tablecloth/shower curtain - what a brilliant idea! I love the way the orange tones in the tile and the blue and green accents are tied together perfectly by the fabric in the curtain as well as through the other accessories you chose. Fabulous job! You do have to do what makes you happy... I always admire how beautiful and calming those all white and neutral spaces look but I know in my heart that it is not what grabs me deep down, if you know what I mean? And I have redone many a space because I didn't trust my gut - I am learning to trust it now! Love your makeover!

  6. Anne it is cheerful and so summer. The accessories are perfect and I can't wait until you find and paint with the orangey color. Don't forget to show us! I know what you mean about embracing the all white and it looks terrific in pictures, but color makes you smile. Keep it up and I can't wait to see the next thing you do.

  7. Anne, I love what you did with the bathroom. I love all the white I see on the blogs for them but my husband and I are color people too. I love old chippy pieces but I need color as I said. I can't wait to see what you do with the pieces you mentioned in the bath. It is so happy in there.

  16. Anne,
It is beautiful and so so cheerful. You did a great job. White is not for everyone and I think it is so good you are embracing color. You need to be true to what you love and it will turn out like your bathroom did. So pretty.

  17. So pretty! I love the inspiration from The Happy Housie too. Krista's home is so fun. You really pulled the colours from the curtain nicely and my favourite piece is the little turquoise shutter propped in the window.

  27. I think it is great that you found your love of colours! There is so much white and cream on blogs these days that it is hard to believe that "everybody" loves white. I prefer whites with hits of colour placed around my home. I really love it when I walk into a home with lots of colour and you know that the person has embraced it and uses it to enhance their space in such a way that you really feel it working. Hope that all makes sense.
    Anyway, looks fabulous!!

  30. Anne, the bathroom looks fantastic. I've been asking myself why I have a lot of neutral colours in my house while my garden is a riot of colour. Hmmm. Maybe it's time f

  32. So very FUN!! Great job on that shower curtain. I'm on the hunt for colorful bathroom items now as well. I'm going to have to make most of them since I can never find what's in my head...the shower curtain is the hardest, of course. Love your use of color - very inspiring! Catherine (new follower)
